Better Resource MonitorA lightweight open-source macOS menu bar monitor for CPU, memory, storage, GPU, and network usage.
About Better Resource Monitor
Better Resource Monitor is a free, open-source macOS menu bar system monitor for people who want a quick, low-noise view of their Mac without opening Activity Monitor. It shows CPU, memory, storage, GPU, and network usage directly from the menu bar, so you can notice unusual load while continuing to work. The app is designed for everyday visibility rather than deep hardware diagnostics. It is a good fit for developers, writers, designers, students, and anyone who wants a lightweight glanceable monitor that stays out of the way. Better Resource Monitor runs on Intel and Apple Silicon Macs using macOS 13 or newer. It includes native GPU monitoring, theme-aware presentation, dark and light appearance support, and customizable display options. The project is built with Rust and Tauri and is distributed under the MIT license. The Mac App Store build and the GitHub build are the same application. Users can install it from the Mac App Store with automatic updates or download signed DMG releases from GitHub for manual updates. Privacy and simplicity are core parts of the project. Better Resource Monitor works offline, sends no telemetry, and does not include analytics, an admin password requirement, a root helper, or private APIs. It is intended for users who want the core resource numbers visible with minimal overhead and no background service to configure. The public website includes installation information, compatibility details, a privacy policy, and comparisons with iStat Menus, Stats, and Eul. Better Resource Monitor is not intended to replace specialized tools for fan speed, temperature sensors, battery health, deep sensor history, or broad hardware controls. Its focus is a clean daily overview of CPU, memory, storage, GPU, and network activity from the Mac menu bar. The project is maintained by Alex Pedersen and is available at the official website and public GitHub repository.
